Thanks for everything you guys have done behind the scenes for the RS merching community.

No doubt this site has opened up many new opportunities and enjoyment within game, but also hopefully useful skills irl - patience being one that springs to mind

It's a real shame what RS3 has become, and like you've said it's been on the cards for a few years for those paying close attention.

I for one probably wouldn't have gained as much enjoyment from this game without this site/community, and I'll always have fond memories looking back in years to come.

Best wishes for the future,

Laylow

Thanks for being a part of it and driving so much traffic to the site through your awesome log.
I'm glad they're good memories to you, all the best to you too!

It's been a couple of great years. Thank you for all the hard work you two have done.

I do agree with your decision. Jagex has been killing RS3 for some time now and people got tired of them. Eventually all will come crashing down especially if 2018 is as bad as 2017 was. I do believe this year was probably the worst we ever had. Started off great with AoD/luck rework but after that it was one disaster after another (gemstone drags, shattered worlds, menaphos, 24/7 MTX etc.)

I always knew you weren't in this to make a fortune but because you enjoyed RS3. But eventually the time comes when you have to let things go.

Thank you for everything and I wish you best of luck.

Thanks for being there all the way Julij, it's been great. I hope they can turn it around, but we're not willing to wait for that and reinvest a lot of time and money to try to get a 2.0 up. The platform was always dependent on the success of RS itself.

All the best to you too! <3

Hello, and thank you for the nice community that has been made here at Merchz!

I am writing because i am worried about loosing the data that Merchz have been collecting over the past years, and i believe it can be of value to publish it openly to inspire new communities, historical usage etc.

So, i am wondering, is there any possibilities to upload this data (Prices, Live prices etc..) for the public domain ?

Thank you..

Hi rungraph, as mentioned to you on the video (if that was your comment), it's easy for people to pick off where we left, build a better platform and then get in touch for the data, than vice versa.

Well I wish I would have known this before I bought lifetime access. It was longer than 3 months ago but it sounds like you've had this in the back of your mind for a while. I understand you gotta do what you gotta do but its still pretty unfortunate. You think RS3 is going to shut down? I hope it goes on for a few more years at least. I do enjoy the game.

Hi MerchzScape, it's been 14 months since you got access and you will get more months on top of that as we're not shutting the live prices down immediately. This wasn't on our mind until late July. It is unfortunate yes, but the best route to take now in our eyes.

I don't think RS3 will be shutdown for years, because they are making far too much money on microtransactions. I just don't see it being enjoyable anymore and the data speaks for itself. OSRS has even overtaken RuneScape as a search term on Google Trends half a year ago and the RS3 playercount is close to an all-time low.

Thanks for the great years, I've learned so much from this site in regards of buying and selling. I wish you all the best of luck. ~MetalHuvud

Hi everyone

As the title slightly dramatically suggests, I want to talk to you about the beginning of the end of the Merchz live prices, and what will happen to the site from here on out.

It's a lengthy explanation, so I've made a video about it and a TL; DR summary, followed by the explanation of why we're making this decision.

  1. We’re announcing that we will stop selling lifetime access to our live prices, as we will gradually fade this service out altogether.
  2. We’ll keep the live prices running for as long as possible while breaking even with the website.
  3. When we can no longer break even, we’ll shut down the live prices altogether and end all subscriptions.
  4. We offer refunds to those who bought a lifetime subscription in the past 3 months. (Pm me for a refund)
  5. We will continue to run the Merchz logs, but may end up adding ads to the site in the future to help us pay for hosting.

So why make this decision?

We’ve been running Merchz for 5.5 years and it’s been a great experience for us. We’re genuinely grateful for your support over the years and hope it helped you out in some way.

As many of you have noticed and pointed out however, the website hasn’t changed in a long time and has been showing its age for too long now. That’s not because we didn’t care to do anything about it, but because things didn’t go the way we planned.

About 2 years ago, we parted with the developer who built most of the Merchz you see today, sam_here. He did a great job building the site, up to the point where we could maintain it for years with little additional adjustments. My fondest memory is creating the Merchz logs together, which became the most popular service on the website.

The reason we split was because communication continuously went very poorly, despite many efforts to change that. We had so many ideas to improve Merchz, but our developer appeared much less progressive than I was and that ultimately caused a rift between us. We were definitely both at fault in things not working out, I’m not trying to badmouth him while he isn't here to defend himself, I just want to give you some insight.

We tried to build a Merchz 2.0

After sam_here's departure, we began to work with 2 new developers on a new version of Merchz (see the video). I initially advocated this in a few videos for those who remember it, but soon became more and more quiet about it as not enough results were being produced.

While these guys were skilled in some areas, communication once again became a massive issue. No deadline we set was ever met and we tried dozens of ways to motivate them to at least finish the platform, including frequent meetings, reports and large bounties for completing deadlines. Today Merchz 2.0 is sitting at an estimated 75% completion, but nothing has actually changed since before the summer, when the last deadlines were not met.

Snow (the founder of Merchz) and I discussed many times how to move on and we could have made this decision sooner, but both of us wished we could’ve seen all of the features we wanted to get on Merchz out there in reality. However with Jagex completely flopping in terms of updates, we know things are drawing to an end for RS3 and we’re no longer willing to go down another month long route to find and work with new developers. We’ve had too many experiences with good starts, grand promises and then little execution and communication. Not just with the 2 recent guys, but others in the past as well.

The decision is final

I know some people would approach us after this announcement, offering to complete Merchz, but we agreed that starting with these 2 guys would be the last step. RS3 is in seriously bad shape and as you’ve been able to tell from my videos for a while, I’m no longer willing to keep our users and subscribers hopeful that things may improve. This has been Jagex’ narrative for years and I’m personally done with it.

So as mentioned, our decision is to fade out the live prices while offering them as long as we can. This also means I’m going to stop making new Youtube guides, but content has already been lacking for a while now.

I know some people will be unhappy about all of this, but we’d rather decide to stop by ourselves, than drag it out until RS3 gets shut down. Snow and I have both moved on with our lives. For those interested, he's running a programming education channel and website and I’m into educating people about Bitcoin and the Blockchain for a few years now.

If you have any questions regarding Merchz, feel free to ask them in the comments below. I could make another Q&A video if there are a lot of questions.

Thank you all for supporting us over the years, it’s been great and I’ve had a lot of fun. I hope you did too and I wish you all the best in life, as well as a happy holiday season.

I’ll still be around so it’s not a goodbye, take care guys!

What ever happend to Wardje?

I really enjoyed seeing his insane profits and ability to be ahead of the market at all times.

Does he still play or has he tapped out?

Received a Runescape mobile phishing email that was sent to the email used to register my account here (and only here). Maybe a result from the breach in 2014, but thought I would give you guys a heads up. Stay safe, use common sense, and double check you your emails before you click them!
