Just trying to make some money! New around here, but an older player of the game itself. Now to relearn the economy...

Wish me luck!

EDIT 4/8/2017:

I took a break from merching while I grinded out 99 Prayer and the Prif quest series. I achieved both, and I am now back to merching each day. I will only be skilling for profit, and focusing on money making.

Skilling and cleaning out my back will bring in supplemental income as well.

Wish me luck!

Hey mstr

If you want to improve, you're going to need to flip for bigger margins and add more variety. Right now you've created a comfort zone for yourself in which you flip a handful of items for the same margins over and over. While that will make you money, it won't teach you anything new or push you to keep getting better.

What is would be considered a good margin? Would you suggest weighing margin over coin return?

Take your last upload as an example. You used 13M to make 700k profit, while at the same time you use 139M to make 400k profit on Noxious staffs. While flipping the staff for 400k may be quicker, you're using 10 times as much cash for almost half the profit. That means flipping a Noxious staff for 400k is simply not worth it for you. The minimum should probably be 2M or you have more profitable alternatives.

A good margin is subjective, your goal should be to improve over time, while thus far you've been sticking with the same margins on your flips.

I'm struggling with exactly what you said, with using a lot of money to make the same or lower profits. However, there are also cases I can't use all my money at once. Like right now I'm logged in and experimenting with different items to try to improve margins and return, but I have all my GE spots filled and 100m sitting in my pouch.

I appreciate all the insight, thank you!

What's the point of using all of your cash if you make less profit doing so? Merchanting isn't about using all of your cash, it's about maximizing profits. In theory you should be able to make more profit using more money. If you can't do that yet, then perhaps you need to experiment with different items.
